At Victoria University (VU), we keep the admissions process as simple as possible.
We are one of only six universities in Australia to offer both TAFE and university courses – from certificate courses through to masters and PhDs. This means you can start at the level that suits you, and progress towards your goals.
We know that there is more than one way to succeed at learning and our admissions approach reflects that. Read about our admissions requirements and take the next step towards your future studies and career.
You must meet the minimum academic entry requirements in order to be eligible for admission into your chosen course.
Course-specific requirements can be found in both VU's course search and the VTAC course search
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)
If you have completed your Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), an Australian or overseas equivalent, or an International Baccalaureate (IB) in the last two years, you must meet any course prerequisites.
Some undergraduate courses at Victoria University require a minimum ATAR and other selection criteria to be met. See the ATAR profile for the ATAR required of previous intakes.
Applicants with higher education study
This category is relevant if you are applying with a previously completed – or partially completed – university qualification.
Depending on the course you are applying for, you will need to have completed between two and six units. Most courses require at least six months of continuous study – equivalent to four units of completed study in an undergraduate degree or higher qualification.
You must also meet the course eligibility criteria. Check individual course pages for detailed admission criteria.
Applicants with vocational education & training (VET) study
To be considered for this admissions category, you will have satisfactorily completed an accredited award at diploma or above at an Australian Registered Training Organisation.
Many Victoria University courses will accept a completed Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or a related discipline.
You must also meet the course eligibility criteria. Check individual course pages for detailed admission criteria.
Applicants with work & life experience
If you do not have any formal academic history, you may be considered on the basis of work or life experiences.
Check your course page for specific work and life experience admission criteria.
The table below provides an indication of the likely peer cohort for new students at Victoria University.
It provides data on students that commenced undergraduate study in a particular year, and were enrolled post census date across all Australian campuses and includes data on International students studying in Australia.
Student numbers in the table have been grouped by the most relevant study or work background of the applicant cohort.
