The Class of 2025 from New Haven's public schools can now apply for the Pennington HBCU Scholarship. Students must have a completed Promise application — including an authorized parent signature — by Dec. 23 to be considered.

Important: if you have already submitted a Promise application, you must log back in under Continue Your Application. Do NOT create a new application. Duplicate applications will not be considered. If you have a question about whether you have submitted an application, please see your counselor or contact info@newhavenpromise.org.

Students must click the button to indicate interest in the Pennington scholarship and then will have until Jan. 20 to complete the specific essay along with information about a recommender, who will be contacted to submit a reference letter. Applicants will receive a detailed “next steps” email by Dec. 27 (earlier if the application is submitted prior to the deadline).

This scholarship is selected by committee. While the recipients must meet at least the qualifications for Promise, that alone does not guarantee a Pennington Scholarship. Those with the strongest academic measures, personal essays and recommendation letters will be chosen. Students must be residents of New Haven and qualify for the New Haven Promise scholarship to be considered.
